Wasn't quite happy with my desktop, so I have tinkered with it a bit more, and this is the result! Note the Vista-style window decorations for close, minimize and maximise, as well as the transparent panel (I had to go for the transparent one because otherwise you'd get an annoying effect where the names of open applications seemed to get superimposed on each other when you moved the mouse over them, but I like it anyway).And all this was accomplished without using Compiz-Fusion or anything like that!
